Communications Manager

The Communications Manager is responsible for the reputational management of the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN). This is a role for an experienced communications leader, it is hands on, but also has line management responsibility for three members of the communications team.

A major part of this role is internal communications -  working across all areas of the hospital, building strong relationships with key stakeholders to produce key internal communications content and ensuring that strategic communications are clear, consistent and on brand.

The role would suit a creative person who has a strong background in the Adobe suite (particularly InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) and who is comfortable producing video and other digital communications content.

Experience of developing creative and innovative staff engagement plans is essential, and experience of working in a healthcare organisation would be an advantage.

This is an exciting, diverse role in a small, but fast-paced team. Strong organisational and personal communication skills are vital, as is the ability to convert complex medical information into easily digestible communication.  

Key responsibilities

 

Line management of communications team

 

  • To set objectives and make sure they are delivered through support, supervision and mentoring
  • To delegate work that comes to the comms team and make sure that the organisation’s needs are met.
  • To manage sickness and TOIL absence within agreed targets
  • To provide communications leadership on hospital projects

 

Communications

 

  • To take part in and manage the press office and communications on-call rota.
  • To create cohesive strategies to further the reputation on the RHN.
  • To manage hospital publications, including RHN News, Fellows Newsletter, Annual Report and Annual Review.
  • To oversee all channels to ensure consistent, on-brand and audience-focused messaging both internally and externally.
  • To act as project lead for the RHN Festival and organise the event annually along with communications and events team colleagues.
  • Lead on key design projects as necessary.
  • To plan and manage a range of creative and innovative internal communications activities that help to engage and support all RHN employees, managing a range of internal communications channels including digital, print and face to face events.
  • To work within a small but effective communications team and provide cross cover.
  • To work with colleagues across the fundraising department to produce internal comms messaging.
  • Demonstrate skill at multi-tasking, dealing with multiple priorities and occasionally working to tight deadlines.
  • Participate in related hospital working groups on development projects.

  10. Ability to analyse complex problems and propose realistic solutions.   E

  12. Experience of developing and executing evaluation methodologies to review the effectiveness of communications and engagement activities.   D
  13. Experience and understanding of budget management.   D
  14. Educated to degree level (or equivalent).   D
