Salary range:  £29,245 - £37,993  per annum (dependent on experience)
Incremental reviews take place on an annual basis

Hours of work: 37.5

Contract Type: Fixed Term for 12 months (maternity cover)

Location: Putney, Southwest London

Summary of position and the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual with proven clinical skills to join as a Band 5 Physiotherapist at the RHN. The post holder will work within an inter-disciplinary team, with the support of specialist senior Physiotherapists, to deliver rehabilitation and disability management for adults with a range of neurological conditions and complex disabilities within our Level 1 Brain Injury Service (BIS).

The post holder will also have opportunities to gain experience across the RHN’s clinical services and develop excellent knowledge and skills in:

  • Value centred care and rehabilitation.
  • Assessment and treatment of adults on our rehabilitation and Prolonged disorders of consciousness     
  • pathways, following acquired brain injury.
  • Complex physical disability management.
  • Respiratory assessment and treatment, including tracheostomy weaning and care

  1. To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your work in line with standards set by the Physiotherapy profession and the RHN.
  2. To work within an Inter-disciplinary team to provide seamless patient centred care, disability management and rehabilitation treatment.
  3. To provide a high standard of Physiotherapy as an autonomous practitioner including; conducting complex patient assessments, formulations of problem lists and treatment plans and provision of Physiotherapy treatment encompassing patients values and goals.
  4. To demonstrate the ability to reflect and develop clinical reasoning, using evidence informed knowledge, to support with treatment planning and development within your caseload.

  • To carry out Physiotherapy assessments, formulate prognoses, goal planning, develop and implement treatment plans and support discharge planning.
  • Be responsible for organising and planning own caseload to meet service and patient needs.
  • Carry out clinical and non-clinical tasks as delegated by Senior Physiotherapist, Clinical Lead Physiotherapist or Head of Therapy.
  • Aware of and demonstrate knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable adults within clinical practice.
  • Maintain accurate, up to date and comprehensive clinical records in line with legal, professional, contractual and RHN requirements.
  • Effectively communicate patient status, progress and discharge requirements with external agencies through written forms (ie reports and letters).
  • Be responsible for maintaining own CPD portfolio (as per HCPC and CSP requirements) and actively engage in the annual IPR process at the RHN.
  • To supervise and delegate to Physiotherapy assistants, therapy assistants and Physiotherapy students as appropriate.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential

  • Qualification in Physiotherapy recognised by the Health Care Professions Council.
  • Registered member of the HCPC, membership of CSP or own public liability insurance.

Experience

Essential

  • Post-registration experience of working in Neurological care and/or rehabilitation.
  • Broad range of pre-registration clinical physiotherapy experience including neurological rehabilitation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to carry out neurological assessment and treatment, working closely with the Inter-disciplinary team to establish patient-values and goals.
  • Evidence of working well in a team, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of participation in continued professional development including demonstrating a keen interest in neurological physiotherapy with an understanding of the need for evidence informed practice and service development.
  • IT skills relevant to job role

Desirable

  • Experience in splinting, wheelchair assessment, postural management and spasticity management.
  • Experience of delegation and supervision of qualified physiotherapy staff, support staff and students.
