Staff Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion Advisor – Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability

Department: Human Resources / Workforce

Responsible to: Deputy Head of Workforce (Staff Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion)

Salary range:  £27,000 - £33,000 (dependent on experience)
Incremental reviews take place on an annual basis

Hours of work: 36 hours per week, with hybrid working

Location: Putney, Southwest London

Summary of position and the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability

The RHN is an independent hospital and medical charity. We care for people who have brain injuries and require assessment and intensive rehabilitation for conditions such as Huntington’s disease and prolonged disorders of consciousness. Our specialist services include a ventilator unit and a neuro-behavioural unit.

We help those with the most complex of health needs and disabilities including degenerative or progressive conditions as well as providing palliative care. The patients we support usually have complex physical challenges alongside their neuro-disability.

Our mission is to provide outstanding care and empowering individuals with neuro-disability, enabling them to live their lives to their fullest potential. The role

The Workforce (HR) team is entering an exciting period of change. We have a new opportunity for a Staff Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion Advisor to join the RHN and support the delivery of our staff engagement, wellbeing and inclusion aims within our People Strategy.

The Staff Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion Advisor will be part of the Workforce function and reports to the Deputy Head of Workforce (Staff Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion). The key focus of the role will be to support the development of a range of RHN wide initiatives and projects to improve staff experience across the RHN through:

  • Staff Engagement - support key programmes of work including addressing the areas for development from the annual Staff Survey.
  • Health and Wellbeing - support key programmes of work including supporting physical, mental and healthy living, financial health and wellbeing of all staff.
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion - support agreed programmes of work to build a more inclusive culture for staff.

The Workforce function consists of three teams that work closely together – HR, Resourcing & Retention, Organisational Development and Learning & Development and Staff Engagement, Wellbeing & Inclusion. Together, we are focused on delivering our new People Strategy that is closely aligned to the RHN’s strategic objectives. Main Objectives of the role

  1. The key deliverable of this role is to provide a variety of project and administrative support to the Deputy Head of Workforce, including:
    1. Organising EDI events and campaigns including but not limited to Black History Month, Pride, International Women’s Day and Disability Awareness Week.   
    2. Coordinating the creation and management of delivering the inclusion and wellbeing calendar of events and communications/promotion calendar.
    3. Designing EDI staff communications including newsletters, intranet pages, internet pages, team briefs etc.
    4. Liaising with Staff Networks including LGBTQ+ and BAME and others.
    5. Supporting the work for Pathway to Excellence (International Nursing Accreditation).
       
  2. To provide a responsive and professional Staff Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion advisory service to internal and external stakeholders.
  3. To demonstrate an awareness of RHN’s objectives within ‘the path to excellence’ and contribute to achieving them appropriately.
  4. Support organisational projects, providing advice to individuals regarding impact assessments and EDI considerations.

Key Responsibilities

  1. To support the delivery the People Strategy and help embed an inclusive culture that is representative of our increasingly diverse culture.
  2. To be the point of contact for all enquiries related to staff engagement, wellbeing and inclusion.
  3. To provide first line advice on staff engagement, wellbeing and inclusion issues.
  4. To develop and maintain an effective communication network with internal and external colleagues to share knowledge and experience.
  5. To report and analyse data to share with the Workforce team and the RHN where appropriate.
  6. Run monthly and quarterly reports on Staff Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion for Workforce department reporting to EMT and the RHN Board.
  7. Assist the Deputy Head of Workforce (Staff Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion) in delivering informal and formal training to stakeholders around staff engagement, wellbeing and inclusion practice.
  8. Assist the Deputy Head of Workforce (Staff Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion) with staff engagement, wellbeing and inclusion events for the RHN.
  9. Take minutes in team and Staff Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion meetings.
  10. To ensure own actions promote equality, diversity and individual rights respecting the privacy, dignity, needs and beliefs of patients and staff.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of HR practices and key principles.

Desirable

  • CIPD qualified or willing to work towards it.
  • HR, English or Social Sciences degree.
  • Project Management qualification or vocational learning.

Experience and skills

Essential

  • Experience and knowledge of intermediate – advanced Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to triangulate information across the wider Workforce function.
  • Strong written and creativity skills.
  • Strong stakeholder and interaction skills that bring people together and inspire action.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • High-level of customer service.
  • Organised, structured, and flexible working style.

Desirable

  • Able to use Project Management methodologies and tools i.e. Agile / Prince2
  • Experience of working in specialist Human Resources areas including OD, EDI, Health & Wellbeing or L&D (D)
  • Experience of events management and campaign development (D)
  • Experience of developing and delivering staff engagement programmes (D)
